Kids can be tough critics when it comes to cheese. The new textures and smells can be intimidating.
When trying to groom a little one to appreciate artisanal cheeses, it's best to start with the basics.

One of the safest bests for kids. Melted in an ooey gooey grilled cheese sandwich or on top of some nacho's can be an excellent start. Since Cheddar is available at different ages, a young, mild cheddar is a good starting point. Work up from there with medium and old cheddar follow-ups.
Fun Fact! Gouda is one of the most popular cheeses in the world. Look for a young fruity gouda that will be easy to slice and lighter in flavour. As a semi-hard cheese with a smooth texture it sure to become a favourite. Make it pop with a little fruit.
3. Mozzarella balls (bocconcini)
These mild and milky little balls are semi-soft, white and rindless. They have a delicate and creamy aroma with an elastic texture and consistency. This makes them fun as well a delicious! Put them on a tooth pick with some cherry tomatoes for the perfect finger food.
Bring the kids into the kitchen and make them part of the experience. Having them contribute to the construction of a cheese board or charcuterie platter will make them more inclined to experiment.
Finally, bring them to the Cheese Shop! Letting them participate in the selection of cheeses will also provide motivation to try something new. Who knows, they might surprise you.
